What do you do when economic downturns torpedo your financial businesses? Why, you start a craft beer company, of course! At least, that’s what Harland, wife Barbara, and long-time business partner Liz decided to do when they launched Old Stump Brewing Company in 2015.
Moving from a financial career to opening a brewery may seem unusual until you learn that Harland hails from Austria, where his family crafted beer for their family and friends. You might say beer was in his genes from birth. So, taking some family recipes and spending time learning what makes Austrian beer great, Harland started crafting fine beer as Old Stump’s brewmaster.
Hampered by an Inflexible Website
Since the trio wanted to focus on beer, not web development, they built their original website using a well-known, DIY website system. They quickly outgrew it and found it difficult to update, manage or use it to sell Old Stump’s swag. The only bright spot was the calendar, but they felt presenting their many fine beers should be just as easy. Then, when a colleague was sued over his site not being ADA-compliant, their frustration turned into worry that their site might be the next one to get sued.
Recreating an Amazing Brewery Vibe in a Website
Old Stump set itself up to serve as a community destination from the beginning; a place where customers could come, enjoy fine beer, hear great music and eat the best food truck cuisine in the area. A place where people could relax, unwind and celebrate life events, no matter how large or small.
When you visit the Old Stump website, you experience the vibrance and energy of the venue itself. It’s almost like being there. As a site visitor, you can quickly check out what beers are on tap, what bands are scheduled, whose LA food trucks will be serving their unique menus, make group reservations or buy some Old Stump swag via an easy-to-use, fully functional e-commerce system.
Behind this outstanding user experience is an easily maintained and updated web infrastructure. Now, Old Stump has all the tools they need to let the community know what’s happening at the Old Stump Tap Room and on the famous patio. How does Old Stump feel about their new site? As Barbara says,
We couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Mark and his team at West Hills Web captured our fun, exciting and delicious essence and energy in words and design.
