Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines provides incredible support to visually impaired individuals, veterans, and children with autism through its expertly trained service dogs. These dogs aren’t just guides — they help people navigate the world and overcome emotional and cognitive challenges. They even place facility dogs in professional spaces like airports, hospitals, and schools.
Located on a beautiful 7.5-acre campus in Sylmar, California, GDA provides all services—including breeding, training, and lifelong support — all free of charge. Dedicated volunteers, like puppy raisers, help in this mission, and only the best-tempered dogs are selected for their programs.
Touring Guide Dogs of America’s Incredible Facilities
When Mark Widawer, president of Web Compliance Pro (WCP), met members of the GDA team at a San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce meeting, he knew he had to see their work up close. Their mission of helping people navigate the physical world struck a chord, considering WCP’s work in helping people navigate the digital world.
During a behind-the-scenes tour of the GDA campus, we saw it all, from the spotless training rooms (they’re as clean as operating rooms!) to learning why Labradors are now preferred over German Shepherds as guide dogs. Witnessing the team’s devotion to their mission and its life-changing impact on those they serve was inspiring.
